EC-601 ANTENNA AND WAVE PROPAGATION
1. Basic antenna concepts : Various definitions, antenna parameters, transmission formula, sources of radiation , comparison between antennas & transmission lines.
2. Point sources: Power patterns of various sources , radiation intensity, directivity, beam width,sources with pattern of arbitrary shape, gain, field and phase patterns.
3. Arrays of point sources : Arrays of 2 isotropic point sources, nonisotropic point sources, principles of pattern multiplication, linear arrays of non-isotropic point sources of equal amplitude & spacing, broad side, end fire arrays, radiation pattern determination of linear arrays, schelkunoff theorems for linear ar arrays, Adolph-Tchebysheff distribution for linear arrays.
4. Electric dipole and thin layer antennas : Short electric dipole radiation of a short dipole, various field Components radiation patterns,radiation resistance of linear antenna, radiation resistance of half waveDipole, quarter wave dipole.
5. Loop antenna : Small loop short magnetic dipole, comparison of far field of small loop and short dipole loop antennas, field pattern of circular loop antenna & its radiation resistance.
6. Helical antenna : Helical geometry, transmission radiation modes, practical design consideration, wide band ckt of helical antenna.
7. Arrays of dipoles & apertures : Horizontal antennas and vertical antennas above a ground plane, Arrays with parasitic elements, freq.Scanning arrays, retro arrays, adaptive arrays & smart antennasLong wire antennas, location methods of feeding antennas, folded dipole antennas.

EC-602 AUDIO & VIDEO SYSTEMS
1. Microphone & Loudspeakers: Construction, working principle, characteristics, and application of different types of microphones, & Loudspeakers.
2. Architectural acoustics: Sabine and Eyrings formula for time of reverberation measurement methods, sound insulation, design consideration of enclosed space articulation test.
3. Magnetic recording : Basic magnetic theory, characterisics of different types of magnetic tape. Magnetic recording methods, d.c. and bias amd a.c. bias, basic construction of recording/ replay head and erasure head, record/play process, cassette tape recorder, multi channel recording, streophonic sound recording.
4. Essentials of B & W and color T.V. : scanning, synchronization and blanking, composite video signal, CCIR- B standards, bandwidth requirements, modulation, VSB techniques, channel standards, sound transmission, compatibility, tricolor theory, luminance, hue, saturation, generation of color and color difference signals.

Heating : Principle and theory of induction heating, effect of freq., applications, and merits of induction heating, principle and theory of dielectric heating ,electrodes used and methods of coupling of electrodes to the R.F.generator, thermal losses in dielectric heating and applications.
2. Polyphase rectifiers : Analysis and performance of three phase half wave and full wave rectifiers,m phase rectifiers-circuit relations using diodes and controlled rectifiers.
3. Resistance welding : Resistance welding process, basic circuits for AC resistance welding, types of welding, electronic welding controls, calculation on percentage duty, energy storage welding.
4. Ultrasonics : generation of ultrasonic waves, ultrasonic as means of communications, testing of materials, cutting machinery, soldering and welding by ultrasonic wves.
5. Introduction to thyristor : SCR construction, charcterstics, two transistor analogy, turn on and turn off methods, phase control of SCR using UJT, phase control by pedestal ramp, rating, protection ckt . Diac and Triac construction and characteristics, phase control of triac using diac.
6. Magnetic amplifier : saturable reactors, self saturation by reactifiers, need for bias and feedback windings, feedback magnatic amplifier, pushpull magnetic amplifier.
7. Automation & Robotics : parts of a robotic systeams, classification of robotic systeams, robot configuration, degree of freedom, sensors, programmable controllers, programming sequence in a typical non servo control robot sensory system,control systeams for industrial robotics.
